Multnomah County Parole Uses New Software to Detect Computer Porn

What:A demonstration of a NTA Stealth, a powerful new computer application that the Multnomah County Department of Community Justice (DCJ) is using to detect hidden pornographic images and evidence of illegal sexual behavior on sex offenders’ computers.

When: August 19, 2004 11:00am

Where: 501 SE Hawthorne Boulevard, Room 315, Portland, Oregon

Who:Officials from Multnomah County DCJ and representatives from New Technologies, Inc., a Gresham-based leader in the field of computer forensics that produces NTA Stealth.

Why: Currently, over 372 million web pages contain pornography, and 2.5 billion pornographic emails are sent each day. Over 100,000 websites offer illegal child pornography. Sexual predators frequently access this material, which is prohibited to them while on parole or probation. These offenders go to great lengths to hide evidence of their activities.

NTA Stealth, allows parole and probation officers in the field to quickly examine a sex offender’s computer for evidence of prohibited internet activity, and seize the computer for a detailed forensics examination if evidence of a violation is detected. NTA Stealth is capable of examining an entire hard disk drive at the physical level, and quickly identifies past Internet activities tied to a specific computer, using forensic methods and processes that are all but impossible to defeat.

For Example: A registered sex offender had hundreds of pornographic pictures stored on his computer - including exploitative pictures of children. Last week, fearing a visit from his parole officer, he re-formatted his hard-drive. Twice. But thanks to NTA Stealth, it wasn’t enough. Parole officers found the illegal material and now the offender is back in jail.

"If a sex offender has visited a Web site he shouldn’t, we’ll know it," said Joanne Fuller, Director of the Multnomah County Department of Community Justice. "In cyberspace, there's no place for sex offenders under our supervision to hide."

NTA Stealth is produced by New Technologies, Inc., a Gresham-based leader in the field of computer forensics. NTI, an Armor Holdings (NYSE: AH) subsidiary, has made NTA Stealth available to law enforcement agencies at a discount, as a public service.
